Hi guys! how are you this fine evening? I’m so pleased to be finishing Julia, I think she’s lost the plot slightly. Anyway, today I made 3 recipes, watercress, leek, and potato soup followed by breaded chicken and mornay-gratinated brussels.
To make the soup, I basically just boiled some potatoes and leeks in water for 25 minutes, added some watercress and boiled for 5 minutes more. Then, I blended and added some cream. I really didn’t like it, it tasted really thin and I just don’t particularly like watercress. It would be better with half the amount of water and stock instead. I then proceeded to make my sprouts. I’ve done it a million times before, I boiled ’em, drained ’em, braised ’em in butter (add butter and in the oven for 20) and mornayed them and put them in the oven for 10 minutes. Simple stuff. While they were cooking, I made my chicken. I dipped the breasts in some flour, then some eggs, then some breadcrumbs mixed with parmesan. I sauteed, covered for about 20 minutes. I liked it, I’ve never had it but it tasted like what I imagine fried chicken would taste like (sorta kfc style) but much, much better quality. As for the brussels, if I see another bechamel or cream sauce I am going to scream.
Well that was a mix, I’ve gone from loving Julia to pitying her in a rather short amount of time! But, I have finished my knife! I made a tanto-style blade with a reef knot handle out of paracord, it’s really cool! Anyway, that’s all I got, bye!
