Food: there was a beetroot and foie gras ice cream and it was what everybody was trying to make by doing foie gras ice cream. My ‘appetiser’ was really good. I mean walnut and goats cheese and apple work well but if you candy the walnut it becomes a whole different thing!
My veal sweetbread raviolo was amazing! If I want to have sweetbreads that’s how I want them. It works really well with the tomato fondue and the little mushrooms. Mum and dads’ cod had some lemon purée and chorizo bits and chorizo sauce and I tell you what, the don’t half taste good together. Mum and dad’s partridge was the least good so far. It didn’t make you go wow like everything else so far. My wild mushroom risotto with a parmigiano wafer was super. It had chanterelles and a black mushroom. It was great but filling. There was also a well chosen selection of local Devonshire cheese. Mum and dad had apple three ways. The first way was an apple crisp which has been soaked in sugar and put into the oven. The second way was an apple jelly and the third was an apple ice cream. It also had a vanilla foam. My ‘mum’s traditional Christmas pudding’ was good but no way near as good as my mum’s. It had a cognac anglaise and clotted cream.
Service: very good
Atmosphere: amazing
Little bits that are nice:
Quirky bits: little wooden twig dogs, funny paintings, model birds and portable wooden pineapples.
