Today was fairly easygoing. I did make 3 recipes though so thats cool. For some reason it felt much easier than other days, I think because I was cooking all day as opposed to a short burst in the evening. Anyway, I made a vichyssoise soup, followed by a sausage and potato and braised sauerkraut.
So to start with, I made my sauerkraut. The sauerkraut was bought, I just braised it. I started by soaking it in some water for 15 minutes, changing the water every 5. Then I fried some carrots, onions and bacon in some oil, added the kraut, some gin, some vermouth, some stock and shoved it in the oven. Then I made my soup. To do this, I boiled some potatoes with some leeks and some stock until tender, then I pureed, added some cream and chilled. I’m not a great fan of vichyssoise, my dad even less so. Mum quit liked it, though the texture was slightly funny – gloopy. I then made my gratin. I sliced some potatoes and fried some onions. Then I spread some onions on the bottom, then some potatoes, some sausages, the rest of the onions and the rest of the potatoes. mix some eggs with some cream and pour it on top with a bit of cheese, and into the oven for half an hour. It was nice. The sauerkraut would have been really nice, if the kraut was of better quality, I used bought so it wasn’t as nice. The gratin was good I guess, BUT WHAT IS IT WITH HER AND USING EGGS IN GRATINS??? Seriously, just use cream or milk.
So that was nice. I like cooking (if it wasn’t apparent). I am currently watching titanic, so 3 hours of romantic wandering about and sinking. Hooray! Anyway, I’ll get back to it. Bye!
