The Elephant

7th July 2016 by Iggy Brodie

FullSizeRenderFood: My olives were brill! They had a bit of a kick, but not too much of a kick. Dad’s scallop ceviche was a bit poor really, it was bland, the only thing you could taste was the lovage sauce. Janet’s quail scotch was nice, but I didn’t taste it. Mum’s crab was crackin’! it had mango, pea purée, and – of course – crab, and they all go together brilliantly. Now the main. My hake was very well cooked, all soft and flavoursome, it also had celeriac, chorizo and a sauce, and you need the chorizo. I was expecting – after the bland ceviche – that the hake would be tired and bland, but that was not the case! Mum’s steak was good, but not as good as her starter. Janet and dad’s duck was sublime! It was really well cooked – rare and flavoursome – and it had two duck leg ‘croquettes’ which work really, really well. The wine was great.
